Chicago : October 2011

I went to Chicago last week for a restaurant conference and to do some research on a new restaurant project. Subject matter? Hot dogs. Fascinating research, really. Long history (no pun intended). I had been to Chicago many times before, but there was something about this visit that was different. I was sober, for one, but that wasn't really it. I think this was the first time I visited Chicago with a real desire to take pictures and to document my experience there. It is jaw-droppingly striking city to look at. I don't think I ever really noticed that before. Especially at night. Go there as many times as you can. Just not in the winter.

Philadelphia : October 2011

Philadelphia, PA was home for me for about 15 years. It gets a bad rap, but it is a great American city. One of my favorites. Gritty yet opulent, modern yet colonial - with exciting food, an important music scene, and a spirited, independent and proud citizenry. These were taken on a clear, cool October day on opening night of the MLB Playoffs. My family and I were in Marlton, NJ for a long holiday weekend and we took the kids in for the day. We all bought hats.

Pre-Opening, Matthews ALIVE Festival, September, 2011

This is a local carnival that is a part of the well run Matthews ALIVE Festival in Downtown Matthews, NC. They do it every year on Labor Day Weekend. I snuck in the night before they opened.
